Golden Technologies' original MaxiComfort lift chair, and still one of its most loved. Here is everything worth knowing before you buy one, from the people who have been fitting Phoenix families with lift chairs for three generations.
The Relaxer PR766 in Medium and Large, shown in the lift position. Available at Electropedic, 1035 E. Camelback Rd., Phoenix.
Electropedic is a third-generation, family-owned business that has been helping people rise, rest and recline since 1964. Our Camelback Road showroom carries the Valley's best selection of Golden Technologies and Pride Mobility lift chairs, so you can compare them side by side, in person, before you spend a dollar.
Sit in the Small, Medium and Large Relaxer back to back, try the hand control yourself, and feel the fabrics in daylight. Online, you are guessing. Here, you know.
Your chair comes from our Phoenix showroom on our own schedule with you, carried into the room where it will live. No pallet left at the curb, no freight company to chase.
We unpack it, position it with the right wall clearance, connect the battery backup, take the packaging away, and show everyone in the house how to use it.
The Relaxer, model PR766, is the chair that introduced Golden's patented MaxiComfort positioning. It is a two-zone power lift recliner, which means your back and your legs move independently, and it has been refreshed with plusher rounded arms, an adjustable three-pillow waterfall back, updated side pockets and an extra-wide chaise pad for lower-leg support.

The Relaxer is for someone who wants a traditional, deeply cushioned recliner that also stands them up safely, and who wants more positions than a basic lift chair offers without paying for tilt technology they may never use.
It is a strong choice for napping and overnight sleeping, for people recovering from surgery who need their legs up, and for anyone who finds getting out of a low sofa or standard recliner harder than it used to be.
All three sizes carry a 400 lb. user weight capacity, it is an FDA Class II medical device, and it is built in the USA by Americans with domestic and imported materials.
A standard lift chair moves the back and footrest together, so every position is a compromise. The Relaxer separates them into two comfort zones, each driven independently from the AutoDrive 3.0 hand control, so you can raise your legs without laying back, or lean back while keeping your feet down.

MaxiComfort reclines well past a typical lift recliner, into a lie-flat stretch that takes pressure off the entire back. In between, you can settle into a TV position, a reading position, a legs-elevated position, or a zero-gravity style position that many owners use for sleep.
The AutoDrive 3.0 hand control has four programmable memory buttons, so once you find your favorite positions, a single press returns you there. The control routes neatly inside the side pocket, where it is always within reach.
Size matters more than almost anything else in a lift chair. A chair that is too tall leaves your feet dangling; one that is too deep means you never touch the back cushion. The Relaxer comes in three sizes, and the right one depends on your height, your leg length and your build more than your weight.
PR766-SMA
Generally suits petite and shorter adults who want their feet flat on the floor and a snug, supportive fit through the hips.
PR766-MED
The size most people of average height land on. Footrest extension is available on the Medium for longer legs.
PR766-LAR
For taller or broader-shouldered users who want a roomier seat and a back that supports the head fully when reclined.
The sit test we use in the showroom. Sit all the way back. Your feet should rest flat on the floor with your knees at roughly a right angle, and there should be about two fingers of space between the front of the seat and the back of your knees. Your head should rest on the top pillow when you recline, and your hips should have a little room on each side without sliding around. If any of those feel wrong, try the next size. That five-minute test is the single best reason to buy a lift chair where you can sit in one first.

Manufacturer specifications. Measurements can vary slightly with fabric, fill, upholstery and carpet thickness. Golden may update the product at any time; our showroom team will confirm current details when you order.
The Relaxer comes standard in Golden's Tucker fabric, a soft, modern weave with SofTouch stain-defense coating, in five colors. Swatches never tell the whole story on a screen, which is why we keep the real fabrics in the showroom.

For most homes, Tucker is the right answer: soft to the touch, easy to live with, and in stock on the most common colors, which keeps your wait short.
Golden's Brisa has the refined look of leather but breathes like fabric, so it will not stick to you on a 115-degree afternoon. Crossover fabrics carry an upcharge and add build time.
Alta performance fabric has a total liquid barrier and antimicrobial protection, a smart choice for incontinence concerns or heavy daily use. Ask us about current crossover options.
The Relaxer is complete as it comes, but a few upgrades make a real difference for the right person. These are the ones we are asked about most often in Phoenix.
A lift chair needs space behind it to recline and space in front of it to rise. Measure before you shop, and when we deliver, we will place the chair so it works the way it should.

Allow the wall clearance above behind the chair, then add the reclined length in front of the seat. Leave a clear, open path in front so you can stand, turn and walk away without a coffee table in the way. Keep an outlet within reach of the cord, and keep pets, cords and grandchildren's toys out from under the chair while it moves.
Bring your measurements, or a phone photo of the room, to the showroom and we will help you pick the size that fits both you and the space.
Part of buying well is knowing what you are not buying. These are the chairs we most often show next to the Relaxer at our Phoenix showroom, along with a wide selection of Pride Mobility lift chairs.
Golden PR766 · MaxiComfort, 2 zones
A plush three-pillow waterfall back and chaise seat with independent back and leg control. The traditional-comfort pick.
Golden PR535 · MaxiComfort, 2 zones
The same positioning family with a different back style and a broader range of sizes, including larger and wider builds.
Golden · MaxiComfort
A cloud-soft, overstuffed look with a contemporary shape, for those who want to sink in.
Golden · Twilight tilt technology
Adds Twilight tilt for fully infinite, zero-gravity positioning. Worth it if you plan to sleep in the chair every night.

Golden Technologies and Pride Mobility are the two names people ask for by name, and we carry both. Seeing a Relaxer beside a Pride Viva Lift model, or a Pride infinite-position chair beside a Golden Twilight, answers questions no spec sheet can.
Our team has no reason to push one brand over the other. We will point you to the chair that fits your body, your room and your budget, whichever badge is on it.
Ask about Pride lift chairsYou can find a Relaxer online. What most online sellers include is curbside freight delivery: the chair arrives on a pallet and is left at the driveway or porch for you to unwrap, carry in and set up. Here is the difference a local Phoenix showroom makes.
Work through these in order and you will leave the showroom with the right chair the first time.
Start with the seat height. Small is 19.5" floor to seat, Medium is 20", Large is 22". Your feet should rest flat with your knees near a right angle and your back against the cushion. Seat width runs 18.5", 20.5" and 22.5" respectively. Sitting in all three at our Phoenix showroom settles it in minutes.
All three sizes of the current PR766 are rated for 400 lbs. For heavier users or a wider seat, ask us about Golden's larger MaxiComfort and bariatric models.
Yes. MaxiComfort's deep recline and independent leg control make it a comfortable sleep chair, and many owners sleep in it after surgery or when lying flat in bed is difficult. If you will sleep in the chair every night, it is worth comparing a Twilight model too.
The Relaxer has battery backup, so you can return to a seated position during an outage. We connect and check it during set-up.
Golden lift chairs are FDA Class II medical devices. Depending on eligibility and medical necessity, they may qualify for partial reimbursement under certain Medicare, Medicaid and private insurance programs, typically for the lift mechanism rather than the whole chair. Talk with your doctor and your plan, and we can help you with the paperwork.
Lifetime on the chair frame, lift frame and recline mechanism; three years on electrical parts with pro-rated coverage in years four through seven; three years on mechanical labor; and one year on electrical labor.
